The Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) The Drayton Avenue Presbyterian Church is part of The Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) has approximately 2.4 million members, 11,100 congregations and 14,000 ordained and active ministers. Presbyterians trace their history to the 16th century and the Protestant Reformation. Our heritage, and much of what we believe, began with the French lawyer John Calvin (1509-1564), whose writings crystallized much of the Reformed thinking that came before him.

The General Assembly, the highest governing body in the PC(U.S.A.), seeks to protect the church from errors in faith and practice and is responsible for assuring that the expression of our theology remains true to the biblical standards in our historic confessions. The General Assembly also presents a witness for truth and justice in our community and in the world community. It sets priorities for the entire church and establishes relationships with other churches or ecumenical bodies.
Synod of the Covenant The Synod of the Covenant is a gathering of 196,879 people who belong to 802 congregations, organized into 11 presbyteries in Michigan, Ohio and surrounding states. The Synod is a regional governing body of the church immediately above the Presbytery. Each Synod consists of commissioners elected by the member Presbyteries.
Presbytery of Detroit The Presbytery of Detroit is a regional governing body of the church immediately above the Session of the local church. Each Presbytery consists of commissioners elected by the member church. Presbyteries have a number of responsibilities, including the ordination of ministers and oversight of the local churches in its area. Each Presbytery consists of all of the Ministers in the Presbytery and elder commissioners elected by the member Sessions.
